Demand to delete Malas from SC list

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS) State convener V. Prabhakar Babu Madiga, in a representation to Usha Mehra Commission, has demanded deletion of Mala community from the list of SCs as recommended by the Lokur Commission in 1965.

He contended that the Mala sub-caste did not find a mention in the Puranas, Vedas and even Manu Charitra, seeking to justify the demand.

He released the representation to the press on Tuesday, pleading for categorisation of SCs into A, B, C and D groups, on the basis of the Justice P. Ramachandra Raju Commission for providing social justice to the `poor' Madigas.

Mr. Prabhakar sought action at the earliest by the Usha Mehra Commission to enable the State Government to implement the categorisation in this academic year itself.

Allegations `baseless'

Meanwhile, the Mala Mahanadu leader Karem Shivaji on Tuesday criticised MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga for making `baseless' allegations against P. Subramanyam, an IAS officer in the Chief Minister's Office. He said the Mala Mahanadu would intensify its agitation from June 15.
