NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to carry on demolition of unauthorised shops on public land at INA market in South Delhi. Justice S. Murlidhar of the Court passed the order on a petition by Mohan Singh Market Rehri-Patri Association of INA Market seeking a direction to the MCD to refrain from demolishing their shops on the grounds that they had valid permits.
Permit submission
However, they failed to submit their permits to the Court when they were asked to. Only 51 members of the Association were able to inform the Court
Counsel for the 51 shopkeepers submitted that the local body had earlier also in an affidavit informed the Supreme Court that it had permitted them to do business in the market. Following submission of permits by them, Mr. Justice Murlidhar directed the local body not to demolish their shops.
The High Court had in February this year also refused to stay demolition of the encroachments in the market. The illegal shopkeepers had sought a stay on the demolition submitting that the Centre was planning to develop the market and regularise their shops.
