NEW DELHI: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party working committee on Tuesday adopted a unanimous resolution calling for a strong movement against the severe scarcity of power and water in the Capital. The working committee meeting held at the Delhi BJP headquarters was attended among others by the party leader in charge of Delhi affairs, Thawar Chand Gehlot, Member of Parliament Vijay Kumar Malhotra, former Union Minister Vijay Goel, Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly Jagdish Mukhi and Mayor Arti Mehra. The committee was of the view that Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit had no right to continue in power as she had failed to provide even basic amenities like power and water to the citizens during her Government's nine-year rule. It called upon the people of Delhi to join the movement so that the Chief Minister was compelled to provide basic amenities to them. While thanking the people for voting the BJP to power in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections, the committee called for similar support in the 2008 Assembly election. The meeting expressed concern at the fact that 50 per cent of the people in Delhi still do not have access to power and water and are on the other hand being burdened with unnecessary taxes. While power companies were not able to supply adequate power, the tariff had shot up by over 35 per cent.
