Coach controversy

It is indeed strange that a country of 1 billion people, which has been playing cricket for over a century, cannot produce its own coach. In fact, India should be providing coaches to the world. Instead it has allowed itself to be snubbed after offering the job to a foreigner who turned it down. Why can't one of our own all-time greats be asked to coach our team?

Mirza Yawar Baig,

Team India will perform as it has always done with or without a coach; it will win the world cup or lose to Bangladesh. Cricket is a game of uncertainties, which fans forget. The hullabaloo over the coach selection is inexplicable but reveals how much the country is hooked to cricket.

Madurai

It has become habitual for us to treat the BCCI as a punching bag for every unpleasant act that involves cricket. In this particular episode, one feels it is not at fault. It is Ford who seems to have said `yes' and backed out.

Suresh Manoharan,
Hyderabad

Many factors might have prompted Ford to change his mind. From the beginning, the media reported that Kent might not spare him for the job. The BCCI could have waited for a final word from him before making an official statement and saved itself the embarrassment.

Chennai
