Special Correspondent

The Madras High Court has declined to entertain a public interest litigation petition seeking to direct the Tamil Nadu and Karnataka Governments to release Cauvery water from Mettur and K.R. dams.

The petition, filed by advocate R. Karuppan, said if e water was not released, kuruvai cultivation in the Cauvery delta region would be affected. Dismissing the petition, the First Bench comprising Chief Justice A.P. Shah and Justice P. Jyothimani said, "however, we make it clear that it is open for the petitioner to make a representation to the State Government in respect of his prayer for release of water from the Mettur Dam."
