On receiving information, Director of Health and Family Welfare M.B. Rudrappa and his officers left for the spot, which is near the TVS Factory at Kadakola, to review the situation on Wednesday.

District Health Officer T.K. Rangaswamy said that so far nearly 50 cases have been confirmed and blood samples have been taken and sent to the National Institute of Virology in Bangalore.

The symptoms reported by the affected people in Sindhuvalli is similar to those reported by the residents of Pushpagiri, and locals say that the disease appeared almost a month ago when many people fell ill and complained of joint pain, swelling of the limbs, high fever with chills and extreme fatigue.

Dr. Rudrappa said they got the information about two days ago and had begun surveillance. The Primary Health Centre at Kadakola has been given additional staff to cope with the situation. A make-shift camp has been established at Sindhuvalli to treat patients, and one doctor and 8 paramedical staff have been deployed.
