PUDUCHERRY: The ‘Sivaji’ phenomenon is here. But much to their disappointment, eager fans cannot book tickets in advance here.

The Government banned the advance booking of tickets in the Union Territory nearly 25 years ago.

Theatre owners, until now, have not been permitted to resume the facility. “We have asked permission for this movie, but we haven’t received any communication till now. For the first day, we have asked for police protection and are expecting a huge crowd. We will have five shows for the first three days,” said Raman theatre managing partner E. Vijayasekar.

In Puducherry, the film is being released at Raman Theatre, Muruga Theatre and Balaji Theatre. This time, one show each in the three theatres has been booked entirely by the fan clubs.

On Wednesday, a group of fans, led by Rajini Sankar, met Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and thanked him for permitting exclusive screening s for the fan clubs. . “There are a total of 540 fans clubs with 27,000 members in Puducherry. We have been taking out processions for all Rajinikanth films including ‘Maaveeran’, ‘Pandian’, ‘Padayappa’ and ‘Baba’. We will also take out a procession for this film,” said Mr. Sankar.

“Since fan clubs have a reputation of damaging property and disturbing other people, we have asked all our fans to behave properly,” he added.

Mr. Rangasamy said he would make it a point to watch the film leisurely in one of the theatres.
