Hosur: Development works to the tune of Rs. 22,000 crore were underway in the power sector in Tamil Nadu. Of them, 19 per cent were related to agriculture, said Minister for Electricity Arcot N. Veerasamy. Inaugurating Areva’s transformer factory here on Tuesday, he said the Government was preparing a number of projects for increasing power generation in the State. The Government was taking concerted efforts for development of various sectors in the State. The State was in a position to supply surplus power to Punjab, Maharashtra and other States, he said. Mr. Veerasamy said that there were problems in the distribution of power to industries in Hosur. Steps would be initiated to streamline power supply in the industrial town. The Tamil Nadu Electricity Board was providing electricity connection to about 40,000 farmers every year. Steps would be initiated to increase the production capacity of power stations in the State.
