MYSORE: Activists of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike confronted theatre personality M.S. Sathyu on the Rangayana premises here on Wednesday over the derogatory references he had reportedly made against the vedike. Mr. Sathyu refused to apologise as demanded by the activists. But he disowned the remarks against the vedike attributed to him in a section of the press. Claiming that he never spoke against the vedike, Mr. Sathyu said he was speaking in general about Kannada organisations. “My statement has been misrepresented in the media,” Mr. Sathyu said seeking to bring curtains on the stand-off between him and the activists. The activists, who were initially in a belligerent mood, later called off their agitation against Mr. Sathyu as he distanced himself from the remarks. “We decided to withdraw the agitation as Mr. Sathyu said he had not spoken against us,” vedike’s leader Mohan Kumar Gowda said. The activists were against Mr. Sathyu after he was reported to have called them a “bunch of selfish people, who did not even know how to speak chaste Kannada,” besides stating that “Kannada does not require protection”.
