Victim of mistaken identity petitions State

BHUBANESWAR: A young man, injured during an anti-naxalite operation, has sought the State Government’s permission to end his life, due to burgeoning medical expenses, if it does not provide him a job.

Rajkishore Giri (28) was working as a security guard at a petrol pump in Barbil town of Keonjhar district. On December 22, 2005, security personnel fired 15 rounds of bullets in which Mr. Giri received four bullets.

"Later, I was proved not to be a naxalite but a common man who toiled to earn his living. Police also owned the responsibility and treated me for some time. I was even promised a job," Mr. Giri said at the Secretariat.

He said two bullets, still lodged in his leg and waist, could not be removed. The man, a victim of mistaken identity, cannot do his duty normally. "I have written to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on December 12 seeking his permission to end my life to get liberated from the agony. But I was not allowed. Then I had drawn the attention of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik but there was no reply from his office," he said.

Submitting his demand list to the Special Secretary, he said the State Government either should give him a job or allow him to end his life.
