Rare surgery performed

VISAKHAPATNAM: The CARE Hospital in the city conducted a rare surgery on K. Krishna, 19, of Hyderabad who was suffering from a complex heart disease.

The patient had the great vessels aorta and pulmonary artery wrongly connected to heart chambers by birth and the ventricle chambers (LTGA) which were reversed, according to CARE hospital medical superintendent G.V.S. Rao.

The left side of AV valve was abnormal with a gross leak. A team of doctors repaired the abnormal position of the valve and replaced the leaking valve with a mechanical one. The patient is recovering, Dr. Rao said in a release on Wednesday.
