Lack of amenities will soon be addressed Gnanapuram entrance will be modernised
VISAKHAPATNAM: Union Minister of State for Mines T. Subbarami Reddy has expressed concern at the lack of amenities at Visakhapatnam railway station, but said that things have started moving in the right direction as he has pursued the matter with Railway Board officials during the past several months. The Minister, accompanied by Member (Engineering), Railway Board, S.K. Vij, visited the derailment site near Duvvada on Tuesday. Later, he visited the Visakhapatnam railway station and inspected the on-going development works and the plans to give a facelift to the station. Addressing the media, Mr. Reddy said that problems like shortage of reservation counters, retiring rooms and other amenities would soon be addressed. The new facilities to come up include an air-conditioned reservation complex, waiting rooms on the first floor and 20 AC retiring rooms and a dormitory on the II floor of the station building. The Gnanpuram entrance would be modernised at a cost of Rs.5 crores. All these works would be completed in the next one to one and a half years, he said. The Minister also inspected the new facilities like the separate entry routes provided for autos, drop and go vehicles and for parking of vehicles opposite the main reservation complex.
