Ayurveda hospitals ready to deal with fever cases

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: The Ayurveda Medical Association of India, Alappuzha district committee, said here on Wednesday that all Ayurveda hospitals in the district were geared up to deal with fever and chikungunya cases in the district.

Addressing a press conference, leaders of the Association said awareness camps and medical camps would be organised across the district. A medicine bank with the help of the district administration, local self-government institutions and drug firms would be set up in the district to tackle the situation, committee president Roy B. Unnithan, District Ayurveda medical officer Sudharma and others said.

The committee demanded Rs.20 lakh from the National Rural Health Mission funds for anti-fever activities.

One dead

A senior citizen, Kalluparambil Narayanan, 59, from Chunakara died at the Mavelikara government hospital on Wednesday. Relatives said he had been suffering from fever for the last one week and had showed symptoms of chikungunya.

However, district medical authorities denied that it was fever that claimed Narayanan’s life.

According to sources, Narayanan was admitted in a private hospital earlier this week with high fever. He was shifted to the government hospital when his condition deteriorated.

Two other persons too had died, allegedly due to fever, in Alappuzha earlier this week. District authorities however maintain that fever was not the cause of the deaths.
