Held on theft charge

VISAKHAPATNAM: A servant, who allegedly stole Rs. 9.30 lakhs from his master’s house in Hyderabad, was arrested here on Wednesday.

The accused, V. Venkateswara Rao, 19, of Kurnool district, was working as a servant in the house of R. Gopala Reddy, a businessman staying at Panjagutta. On June 9, Venkateswara Rao allegedly stole cash from his master’s house and escaped.

Gopala Reddy lodged a complaint with the Panjagutta police on June 11.

Based on the network area of the cell phone of the accused person, the police concluded that he would be in Visakhapatnam.

They informed the city police and also deputed a team to Vizag.

The police teams conducted raids at various hotels and lodges in the city and finally zeroed in on the accused at a lodge. The police recovered Rs.9.14 lakhs from him and took him into custody.

Two Town Circle-Inspector Bhima Rao, Sub-Inspector Panda and constables Jaya Kumar and Ravi Kumar, and SI (crime) P. Kameswara Rao (Hyderabad) conducted the raids.
