Dacoits strike in Kukatpally
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Dacoits robbed an elderly couple of Rs. 50,000 and gold jewellery weighing 15 tolas after sneaking into their house by removing window grills at Vasanthanagar Colony near Kukatpally in the early hours of Wednesday.
The victims, K. Srinivasa Rao, 66, a retired IDPL employee, and his wife, Usha Rani, 56, were asleep when intruders woke them up at 4 a.m. The intruders had their faces covered with handkerchiefs and one of them wielding an iron rod lunged at the woman and tried to snatch her necklace.
Parts with jewellery
Scared of being hurt, the housewife pleaded with them not to use force and parted with the gold ornaments she was wearing.
Later, the offenders ransacked the house and took away Rs. 50,000 and some jewellery from the almirah. Before fleeing, they disconnected the telephone and ordered the couple not to come out of the house for an hour.
Abortive bid
Later, the couple alerted the police with the help of neighbours. The dacoits were described as being in their mid-20s and conversing in Hindi.
Before raiding Rao’s house, they made an abortive attempt to raid another house. An inmate who got alerted began screaming and the gangsters fled, police said.
