dated June 15, 1957: PM leaves for Damascus

Prime Minister Nehru left New Delhi on June 14 for Damascus on the first lap of his four weeks' tour, which will take him to the Scandinavian countries and to London where he will participate in the Commonwealth Prime Ministers' conference. He was given a warm send-off at the Palam airport by President Rajendra Prasad, Vice-President Radhakrishnan, Central Ministers, Service Chiefs and heads of diplomatic missions in Delhi. Mr. M.O. Mathai, his Private Secretary, is accompanying the Prime Minister on the tour. Mr. Nehru is flying in an Indian Air Force Viscount.
