Letters to the Editor
This refers to the editorial "End of a distressing episode" (June 14). After almost three months of uncertainty and speculation over the cause of Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer's death, the Jamaican police have disclosed that he died of natural causes. The Pakistan cricketers must have surely been traumatised as officials constantly interrogated them. It is surprising that the police took so long to come to a conclusion when conspiracy theories were freely doing the rounds. They should have been more responsible.
Alok Bejai,
* * * I am sure everyone, particularly the Pakistani players who have been an agonised lot, must be relieved. Many almost started believing that there was something fishy and shady in the whole affair. Thankfully, cricket remains a gentleman's game.
Premkumar Kani,
* * * In any murder case there are suspects who come under intense police scrutiny. When the investigation conclusion is not one of murder, the traumatisation they suffered is regrettable. But to say the police should apologise to suspects is like putting fetters on their hands. The twists and turns the Woolmer death inquiry took were because of the time and circumstances of his death on that fateful day.
Richard Crawford,
* * * There are too many unexplained things in the Woolmergate episode. When the pathologist who conducted the first autopsy still believes "it was a murder," the Jamaican police's revelation sounds incomplete and unconvincing.
Vijay Srinivasan,
