Sunil Kumar outclassed Sanam Singh 6-0, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF men's Futures tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Thursday. Playing an all-round game, the stylish left-hander Sunil tamed his fellow talent from Chandigarh, by racing away with the first 10 games, though Sanam did everything in his capacity to stay afloat. When the two engaged themselves in long rallies, it was a delight to watch as the quality of hitting was high, but Sunil had the confidence to stay ahead, negotiating everything that the diminutive Sanam threw at him. It was to Sanam's credit that he managed to win three games in a row after being 0-4 down in the second set, but Sunil stepped up his game yet again to scotch any further hopes of revival. Possibly, Sunil's authentic execution must have convinced Sanam that it was after all the right decision on his part to opt for collegiate education in the U.S. rather than pursue professional tennis. In the semifinals, Sunil will face Prakash Amritraj who toyed with Hsin-Han Lee of Chinese Taipei after a tough start in which his opponent was playing a big game. The results: Singles (quarterfinals): Karan Rastogi bt Navdeep Singh 6-2, 1-6, 6-4; Vishnu Vardhan bt Vinod Sridhar 6-3, 3-4 (retired); Sunil Kumar bt Sanam Singh 6-0, 6-3; Prakash Amritraj bt Hsin-Han Lee (Tpe) 6-4, 6-2. Doubles (semifinals): Tushar Liberhan and Sanam Singh bt Vijay Kannan and Vinod Sridhar 6-2, 6-2; Hsin-Han Lee and Tsung-Hua Yang (Tpe) bt Ashutosh Singh and Sunil Kumar 6-3, 6-3.
