Semifinalists spotted

Sivakasi: L. Silambarasan, K. Chandrakumar, G.D. Ashok Kumar and S. Stalin, all from Chennai, entered the boys' under-18 semifinals in the 49th State youth carrom championship for the Sri Kaliswari Fire Works-Sivakami Ammal Trophy, organised by the Virudhunagar District Carrom Association, here on Thursday.

The results: Quarterfinals: Boys: Under-18: L. Silambarasan bt Dillibabu (Che) 25-3, 25-0; K. Chandrakumar bt Sathish Kumar (Che) 8-25, 25-0, 25-15; G.D. Ashok Kumar bt Santhose Kumar (Cbe) 17-25, 25-0, 25-15; S. Stalin bt M. Arumugam (Mdu) 21-25, 25-5, 25-9.

U-14: A. Vigneswaran (Che) bt Inbaraj (Che) 25-0, 25-3; V.R. Vengadeswaran (Mdu) bt Vivek Kumar 25-0, 25-3; K. Tamil Selvan (Che) bt S. Srikanth (Che) 25-13, 25-6; S. Arokiaraj Franklin (Mdu) bt T. Kandan (Che) 25-0, 19-25, 25-6.

U-12: Kumaresan (Che) bt Shibi Abhinew (Mdu) 25-17, 25-11; Giridharan (Che) bt Roshanraj (Mdu) 25-6, 25-14; Pandian (Che) bt Panaselvandran (Che) 25-18, 25-15; Thayanithi (Che) bt Navagururaj (Vnr) 25-9, 24-25, 25-10.

New teams

At Tuticorin, the Tuticorin District Cricket Association has decided to enlist two new (unaffiliated) teams in its `C' division league for the year 2007-2008.

Chess tournament

The Chola Chess Academy will conduct a State-level chess tournament at the Little Scholars Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Thanjavur on June 23 and 24.

Events will be conducted in the under-17, 13, 11, 9, 7 and Open categories. Entries close on June 21. For details, call K. Ansar Baksha, ph: 9360342304.

Cricket trials

At Thanjavur, trials to select the Thanjavur district u-19 and 15 cricket teams for the inter-district tournaments will be conducted at the Annai Sathya Stadium on June 17 and 18 from 3 p.m. For details, call Arunan, ph: 9443475893.

At Tiruchi, selections for the Tiruchi District u-19 and 15 cricket teams for the inter-district tournaments will be conducted at the National College on June 16. The u-15 trails will be from 6.30 a.m. and for u-19, it will be from 3.30 p.m. Call Ilangovan, ph: 9443766869 for details.

At Perambalur, the Perambalur District u-15 cricket team for the inter-district tournaments will be selected during trials to be conducted at the India Cements turf ground, Dalavoi, on June 17 from 9 a.m. Details can be had from Ramasamy, ph: 9443148243, or Rajesh, ph: 9443648310.

Selection trials

Selection trials for the Coimbatore District Cricket Association under-19 team will be held at the Sri Ramakrishna Trust nets, SNR Sons College grounds in Coimbatore on June 20 at 4 p.m. Players born on or after 1-9-1988 are eligible.

Meanwhile, the u-17 trials to be held at the same venue on June 23 at 8.30 a.m. have been postponed.

NDCA trials

The selection of the Nilgiris district u-15 team for the inter-district tournament will be held at the St. Joseph's Boys AI HSS grounds in Coonoor on June 17 at 9.30 a.m.
