Abu, Sanya made to stretch

NEW DELHI: Abu Rizwan fought back from the brink of defeat to overpower Sameer Sahni in seven games and set up a title clash with Varun Jindal in the men's singles final of the TT Cup Summer Open table tennis tournament at the St. Columba' s School here.

In the women's singles semfinals, Sanya Sehgal got the better of Meghna in seven games to enter the final, where she will take on Manika Batra. Manika had earlier won the sub-junior girls' title, while Utkarsh Gupta claimed the cadet boys' crown.

The results: Men: Singles: Semifinals: Varun Jindal bt Yakshap Jindal 7-11, 11-6, 11-3, 11-8, 7-1 (conceded); Abu Rizwan bt Sameer Sahni 11-7, 10-12, 9-11, 11-8, 10-12, 12-10, 16-14.

Women: Singles: Semifinals: Manika Batra bt Esha Monga 11-5, 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 13-11, 12-10; Sanya Sehgal bt Meghna 7-11, 11-6, 11-8, 4-11, 11-4, 9-11, 11-8.
