Patna: The Bihar Government has asked the nationalised banks to open special counters for sanctioning education loans to needy students between June 15-25 and between July 15-25. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who also holds the finance portfolio, on Thursday said that he had discussions with bank officials to launch a special drive for distributing education loans to students seeking admission in various technical institutions across the country. A majority of the bankers have agreed to it and they have already started advertising about their special loan scheme, Mr. Modi said.
Financial year
The banks distributed education loans to the tune of Rs.140 crore during the last financial year and the NDA Government desired to extend the education loan to Rs.500 crore during the current fiscal. The Deputy Chief Minister said several bank officials during discussions agreed that they would not ask for collateral security
