DHARWAD: Minister for Kannada and Culture H.S. Mahadeva Prasad conferred the “Santa Shishunala Sharief” Award for 2006 on singer C.K. Tara of Mysore here on Thursday.

The award presentation function coincided with the inauguration of the wing of “Suvarna Samskrutika Samuchchhaya” and Dharwad unit of Rangayana.

Ms. Thara, who was awarded the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1997, was presented a citation and a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh.

The Minister said that it was apt that the award was being conferred on her in Dharwad, where poet saint Shishunala Sharifa lived.
