Two farmers commit suicide

BIJAPUR: A debt-ridden sugarcane farmer committed suicide at Halasangi village in Indi taluk on Thursday. The police gave the name of the person as Devappa Gundappa Shirahatti (45).

He had taken a Rs. 3-lakh loan from Union Bank and cultivated sugarcane on his eight-acre plot. But he could not sell the crop.

Distressed by this, he hanged himself from in his house. He is survived by wife, daughter and two sons.

Mysore Special Correspondent reports

A farmer who was into heavy debt due to crop failure consumed pesticide and committed suicide in Mandya on Wednesday night. The person was identified as Shambu Linge Gowda (30) of Kagehallda Doddi in Mandya taluk. Shambhu Linge Gowda was rushed to the government hospital and he died there.
