Bangalore: The Government will not stop just with loan waiver for farmers and come up with “permanent solutions” to solve their problems after “mobilising enough resources”, assured Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy here on Thursday, even though he only hinted at what the solutions could be. “I will quit today if you think I am not an effective Chief Minister. But do not expect me to provide solutions overnight,” Mr. Kumarswamy said. Addressing farmers’ representatives after a day-long meeting with them, he promised to take up discussions on a number of possible solutions to solve their problems, including coming up with a separate budget for agriculture, bringing about legislation to control private lending and providing uninterrupted power to farmers over the next two years by augmenting electricity generation. Plea to farmers
Urging farmers not to resort to suicides, he admitted that there had been lapses on the part of the Government, including inability to frame a wine policy and neera policy on time because of negligence on the part of officials.
