Colourful: An exhibition, organised by Chrysallis Performance Arts Centre for the Challenged, of posters prepared by children, in Bangalore on Thursday.
BANGALORE: The Bangalore-based Chrysallis Performance Arts Centre for the Challenged on Thursday made attempts to expose children and teachers to the difficulties faced by children with disabilities in classrooms. Its founder, Diana Tholoor, said this was part of a process to evolve a module or a strategy to integrate children with disabilities with regular schools in future. She hoped to prepare a module for educational institutions by the next academic year. As part of the process, 15 children were paired with disabled children and six teachers were asked to teach them for 10 minutes each. A sign language expert explained what was being taught for the benefit of the children with hearing disabilities. At the end of the history class, two children with visual disabilities could not say anything about what they had learnt, and apparently children with hearing disabilities had found the class was going too fast and hardly understood what was being taught. Ms. Tholoor said her organisation wanted to expose children and teachers to these realities. An exhibition of posters prepared by groups of children — each having both normal and disabled children — was also held. A motor rally by Prashant H. Pillar was flagged off. He will attempt to create awareness on integration of special children with other children during the rally. He will be covering 18,000 km. The Indian Oil Corporation has sponsored the fuel.
