Six major schemes approved

CHENNAI: A meeting of the State-level steering committee of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, chaired by Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin here on Thursday, approved six major schemes, costing Rs. 1,394.73 crore.
The meeting also decided to forward the schemes to the Central Government for approval.
The schemes are underground sewerage schemes for the Coimbatore Corporation (Rs. 443.64 crore) and the Porur town panchayat (Rs 30 crore), drinking water supply schemes for the third grade municipalities of Ullagaram-Puzhuthivakkam (Rs. 18.25 crore) and Tiruverkadu (Rs. 31.84 crore) , construction of storm water drainage and improvement of water channels (Rs.750 crore) and provision of infrastructure to slum dwellers (Rs. 121 crore) in the Chennai Corporation.
