Dharna against electricity meters

Thiruvananthapuram: Representatives of the Federation of Residents’ Associations of Thiruvananthapuram will hold a dharna in front of the Secretariat on Friday against the installation of electronic meters by Kerala State Electricity Board and against the Board’s issuing of disconnection notices to consumers demanding additional deposits.

According to a press note such moves will sabotage the Government’s decision not to hike power tariffs. The Board is going ahead with installation of electronic meters at a time when the Lok Ayukta has ordered that only those meters that have been tested and stamped with the IS 13779/99 standard and with the ISI mark be installed and that the consumer be shown documentary proof of this.
