Question leak case: charge sheets filed

Accused charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating
Charge sheet filed against two others earlier

Kochi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Thursd ay, filed charge sheets before the Ernakulam CBI Special Court against seven accused in the SSLC question paper leak case.

The accused are Rajan Chacko (accused no. 3), general manger of a Chennai-based printing press; Annamma Chacko (4), wife of Chacko; V. Subramaniam, managing director of the press; S. Raveendran (8), former secretary, Pareeksha Bhavan; C.P. Vijayan Nair (9), senior superintendent, office of the Assistant Education Officer, Thiruvananthapuram; V. Sanu (12), Deputy Director of Education; and K. Ajith Kumar (13), typist, Directorate of Public Instruction.

M. Gopalan (accused no.10), Additional Director, Directorate of Public Instruction, and Abdul Shukkoor (11), Senior Finance Officer of the directorate, were discharged from the case.

The case related to the leak of the SSLC question papers for the March 2005 examinations. The CBI took over the investigation on a High Court directive. The agency had earlier filed charge sheets against two other accused before the Ernakulam Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. They were charged with offences punishable under sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy) and 381(theft), read with section 411(dishonestly receiving stolen property), of the Indian Penal Code. The seven accused were charged with criminal conspiracy and cheating.
