Staff Reporter

TDP fact-finding team visits two villages

GUNTUR: The fact-finding committee of the Telugu Desam Party, which visited Budampadu and Vejendla villages in the district on Thursday, levelled serious charges of illegal land transactions against Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana, his son and Mayor Kanna Nagaraju and his followers. The Minister however, refuted the allegations, at a press conference held later in the evening.

The team of MLA.s and local leaders, including TDP senior leader Yerraballi Dayakara Rao, Uravakonda MLA Narendra Reddy, Nandigama MLA. D. Umamaheswara Rao, Ponnur MLA Dhulipalla Narendra visited the two villages and interacted with the villagers.

The committee was probing into allegations of land grabbing against the minister, based on a written complaint at a separate cell at Hyderabad.

Speaking to reporters here on Thursday, Mr. Narendra said Mr. Kanna Nagaraju coerced the tenants and the land holders of a 30 acre extent of land at Budampadu, Kidambi Srinivasacharyulu to part with the land for a lesser sum.

"The Minister too used his clout with the police and revenue departments and forced the land owners to part with the land," he alleged.

On the other hand, close followers of Minister Munagala Ravindranath and Kanamurlapudi Srinivasa Reddy too bought about 20 acres at Vejendla village, he alleged.

All the registrations were made in violation of the Tenancy Act, 1956, which stipulated that land holder should not sell away the land, without giving notice to the tenant or giving an opportunity for the tenant to purchase the land for himself.

The Transport Minister, however, refuted the allegations and said that his son had purchased eight acres of land, after taking the legal opinion.
