Efforts on for more blood banks: Collector

Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M. Subrahmanyam has said efforts are being made to open more blood banks in the district to cater to the requirement of the needy patients.

Inaugurating a voluntary blood donation camp at the JNTU College of Engineering auditorium here on Thursday under the joint auspices of district AIDS Control Society, Rotary Blood Bank, engineering college NSS wing and the Lok Satta service wing, he said plans were under way for establishing blood components processing unit at the Red Cross Blood Bank premises.

The Red Cross applied for the licence required for the blood processing unit.

While appealing to people to come forward to donate blood- the life saver, the Collector himself donated blood on the occasion.

The Collector honoured five blood donors with shawls and mementoes. They include V.R.K. Paramahamsa who donated blood 88 times, T. Srinivasa Raju (60 times), G. Krishna Mohan (55 times), Boddu Bhaskara Raman (50 times) and S.K. Reddy (44 times).

The Collector also distributed appreciation certificates to those donated blood more than 25 times. K Satya Prasad, engineering college principal, presided.

Additional District Medical and Health Officer M. Pavan Kumar, Rotary Club chairman Y.D. Rama Rao, Nehru Yuva Kendra coordinator S.S. Manoranjan spoke on the importance of blood donation. Rotary Club secretary V. Anand, NSS unit officer Muralikrishna, Lok Satta leader Aluri Vijayalakshmi attended.
