BERHAMPUR: Noted literary personality of the city, Sudarsan Acharya was selected by the Orissa Sahitya Akademi for the ‘Atibadi Jagannath Das Award’ for his life time achievement in literature. It is the top honour accorded by the state Sahitya Akademi every year. This retired professor of Oriya department of Berhampur University had also been selected this year for Kendriya Sahitya Akademi award for his translation of voluminous Sanskrit classic ‘Kathasaritsagar’ into Oriya.Till date Mr Acharya has more than 20 literary publications to his credit. Although translation and writing literary criticisms are his forte yet he also taken interest in collecting old palm-leaf manuscripts and editing. As his father was a Sanskrit pundit, he had developed interest in translating Sanskrit classics into Oriya. Speaking to newsmen after getting the news that he has been selected for the prestigious award, Mr. Acharya said he has passed the age to be excited by awards. He is now busy in completing the literary works he has started. These works include compilation of unpublished works of Gopinath Nanda, compilation of Oriya novels of 19th century, complete works of Kavisamrat Upendra Bhanja and a literary encyclopaedia in Oriya.
