BHUBANESWAR: The prestigious Sarala Award was presented to well-known educationist and literary critic Dasarathi Das here on Thursday evening. The award, carrying a citation, a plaque and a cash component of Rs 1,00,000 was presented to Dr. Das by renowned Oriya poet Ramakanta Rath. A large number of literary personalities and people from various walks of life were present at the award presentation ceremony that was held at the Jayadev Bhavan auditorium. 28th in series
The Sarala Award, 28th in the series, was presented to Dr. Das for his significant contribution towards enrichment of Oriya literature through his writings. Dr. Das has written more than 10 books containing essays and critical analysis of works in various branches of literature. Four other eminent personalities -- poet Narayan Prasad Singh, artist Niranjan Satpathy, social worker Balaram Dash and blind poet Dhirendranath Barik -- were also felicitated on the occasion for their contribution in their respective fields. They were presented with a citation, a plaque and cash award of Rs. 21, 000 each. They were felicitated by Bansidhar Panda, founder president of Indian Metals Public Charitable Trust (IMPaCT). The Sarala Award has been instituted by IMPaCT, an organisation established by the IMFA Group. Mr. Rath spoke about the contributions made by the awardees in their fields, He thanked IMPaCT for instituting the award.
