BANGALORE: Thieves smashed the windows of a building contractor’s multi-utility vehicle and made away with a briefcase containing Rs. 2.2 lakh from it in HAL police station limits on Thursday morning. The police said that around 11.30 a.m., the contractor, Mahendra, withdrew Rs. 2.2 lakh from the Canara Bank branch in HAL, which he was to deposit in Vijaya Bank’s Brigade Road branch. On his way to Brigade Road, Mr. Mahendra parked his vehicle near HAL Kalyana Mantapa and went to a nearby eatery to have coffee. When he returned to the vehicle a few minutes later, he found that the thieves had made away with the briefcase containing the cash. Road deaths
A software engineer, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed on the spot after he rammed his motorcycle against a road median on Bannerghatta Road in the early hours of Thursday. The police said the accident occurred around 1.45 a.m. near Mantri Elite apartment. The police gave his name as Nadeem (22), an engineer with Accenture and a resident of Gurappanapalya on Bannerghatta Road. He was from Channapatna in Bangalore Rural district. The MICO Layout traffic police have registered a case. In another accident, Mohanlal Chowdary (17) was killed on the spot after a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus hit his bicycle near the toll gate on Mysore Road around 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The police said Chowdary of Rajasthan was working in a textiles shop here.
