Protests turn amusing

It was indeed funny to watch these grown ups sucking their thumbs. Funnier still to see some of them sticking flowers behind their ears. No! Definitely, they were not wet behind the ears. It was a way of protest for a cause. But not all were amused by such ‘novelty’ shown in abundance by the political bigwigs, whose prime thought was to hog the limelight. If the TRS and Congress workers resorted to these cheap tactics, the Communists too did not lag behind. Communists, hitherto known for their seriousness in organising protests too seemed to have been bitten by the publicity bug. On Thursday, scores of women demonstrators gathered at a statue of Indira Gandhi near Jubilee Bus Station and began wailing loudly. It was their way of expressing their anguish over what they would call as ‘reluctance’ of the Congress Government to solve people’s problems. But aren’t the politicians lowering the prestige of their parties by resorting to these cheap tactics just to get some time in news capsules or some coverage in print media?
