HYDERABAD: Patients and their attendants can now lodge complaints of negligence and work ability of civil hospitals and their staff, including doctors, over toll free number - 1056 - for prompt action, said Minister for Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidhana Parishad Vanama Venkateshwar Rao. Launching the State-wide health awareness campaign at Malakpet Area Hospital here on Thursday, the Minister said doctors of all civil hospitals in the State would interact with patients and general public every Monday from 11 a.m. to create awareness on different health hazards and its prevention. Top priority would be given to sanitation and clean and healthy environment on hospital premises. Respective superintendents would check the hospital surroundings every Saturday. A sum of Rs. 35 crore was sanctioned to all the civil hospitals for purchasing life saving and other emergency medicines, said Mr. Rao. As per a recent survey, every year, nearly three crore people visit hospitals in the State and the present strength of doctors and hospitals is insufficient to meet the requirement. There is shortage of 450 specialised doctors and 1,000 MBBS doctors. Recruitment of 170 doctors was underway and the remaining vacancies would also be filled by the year-end, the Minister said. On the representation of Mal Reddy Rangareddy, local MLA, Mr. Rao announced transformation of Malakpet Area Hospital into a model hospital, said a press release.
