Foetus found in hospital waste

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: A foetus was found on Thursday in hospital waste dumped on the roadside at Thiruvankulam. It was found when local people opened a packet dumped near Kadungamangalam Church Road in the morning. Such packets were being dumped there for three days, and people were curious.

Johnson Thomas, Chottanikkara panchayat member, and others alerted the police. “We believe someone who has taken the contract for clearing hospital waste must have dumped it here,” he said.

The Thripunithura police held an inquest and sent the foetus to the Government Medical College in Alappuzha for a post-mortem examination. Hospital waste such as needles and books and papers relating to patients were found to the west of Kochuppally in Udayamperoor panchayat limits. It was disposed of after informing the District Collector, the police said.
