KOCHI: The district administration will send notices to 49 doctors for alleged unauthorised absence from work. The doctors will be asked to approach the district administration authorities in person or write to them explaining the reasons for absence, District Collector A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish said here on Thursday. Action will be taken after they are given time to respond to the notices, he said. This step is being considered because of the difficult situation prevailing in the wake of viral-fever and chikungunya outbreak. In the absence of doctors, the Government hospitals have constraints in providing treatment. The absentee doctors are working in private hospitals or have assignments abroad, said a medical officer in the Directorate of Health Services. Health Secretary Vishwas Mehta, who was here on Thursday, held discussions with the Collector on the fever cases. The number of chikungunya cases was 63 and viral fever 3,472 as reported by the health authorities.
