Kolkata: Raju Gazi, a petty thief, whose "disappearance" on Wednesday sent the alarm bells ringing, was found napping on the terrace of the Alipore Central Jail prison the next day. Gazi, 21, a habitual offender, was found missing during the evening roll call. As he failed to turn up despite repeated roll calls, an alarm was soundedand a search began. "On Thursday, the guards found him on the terrace, partly hidden behind some unused furniture, snoring away," said B.D. Sharma, Inspector-General of Correctional Services, Government of West Bengal. When woken up, Gazi pretended to be mentally unstable. He said he was tired of the prison schedule. "He probably hid there during the night planning to escape and fell asleep when he failed to make it good," Mr. Sharma said.
