dated June 16, 1957: Reservation for backward

The Government of Kerala have ordered that 25 per cent of the seats should be reserved for backward classes and five per cent for Scheduled Castes and Tribes in professional colleges, namely, engineering, agricultural, medical and veterinary colleges. In the case of engineering and medical colleges, a minimum of 45 per cent of marks in the optional subjects should be insisted upon for candidates from backward classes and Scheduled Castes and Tribes. Subject to these reservations, admission will be strictly according to merit.
