Suicide squad said to be involved in indiscriminate firing in Kashmir

SRINAGAR : Two security force personnel and two militants, believed to be part of a suicide squad, were killed and nine others injured during the past 24 hours in Kashmir.

A police spokesman said that a soldier and a CRPF trooper were killed when militants resorted to indiscriminate firing on an Army convoy at main Chowk in Sopore town on Friday. Four soldiers and five civilians were injured. The dead were identified as driver Kanta Rao and constable Nissar Ahmed Lone. A manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits.

Two Pakistani militants were killed in a pre-dawn operation in the Nowgam area of Srinagar on Friday. Superintendent of Police (Operations) Mohammad Irshad said they were a part of a fidayeen squad.

He said that on specific information, police arrested a local militant Abu Faisal. "The militant disclosed that a suicide squad has sneaked into Srinagar,'' Mr Irshad said.
