Kohli dares extradition order

Staff Reporter

Maninder Pal Singh Kohli

NEW DELHI: Maninder Pal Singh Kohli on Friday challenged in the Delhi High Court a lower court order extraditing him to the United Kingdom to face trial for allegedly assaulting and murdering British teenager Hannah Foster in 2003.

His petition will come up for hearing on Monday before a vacation Bench comprising Justices Pradeep Nandrajog and P.K. Bhasin.

The Extradition Enquiry Report passed by Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kamini Lau directed the Union Government to hand over Kohli to Scotland Yard. The court relied on forensic, medical and photographic evidence submitted by the British police.

The extradition proceedings began in September 2004. Kohli was brought here on September 10, 2004, on a production warrant issued by court. He was arrested on July 15, 2004 at Kalimpong in West Bengal and later lodged in a Chandigarh jail in connection with another case.
