Lahiri is champion

Anirban Lahiri was in a league of his own in the final round of the LG-Eagleton amateur golf championship.

While his rivals were struggling, Lahiri was cruising and the Bangalore youngster romped home to win by a whopping margin of 13 strokes.

Lahiri's score of two-under-70 on the fourth day meant that he had ended the tournament with a superb score of 15-under 273 on the extended championship course. A great show by all accounts.

Raj Randhawa just held on to second place while Chikkrangappa wrested the third place with a card of even par for the last round.

Good start

Lahiri displayed no signs of nerves as he started the title round with a birdie slotted in from a distance of 10 feet. Three more birdies on the front nine (6th, 8th and 9th) and two more on the back nine (14th and 16th) embellished his card. But Lahiri also came up with some patchy hitting to have four bogeys (5th, 7th, 11th and 13th).

The tricky pin positions on the fourth day might have contributed to the poor scores as apart from Lahiri only Abhishek Jha (70) and Amit Nigam (71) went below par.

The final scores: 273: Anirban Lahiri (66,67,70,70); 286: Raj Randhawa (71,70,67,78); 288: Chikkarangappa (71,71,74,72); 289: Abhishek Jha (75,72,72,70), Simarjeet Singh (72,74,70,73); 290: Amanjyot Singh (75,72,71,72).
