NEW DELHI: A 17-member Indian athletics team will be part of the Asian team in the second Afro-Asian Games in Algiers, Algeria. The Games will be held from July 28 to August 6. The athletes were selected by the Indian Olympic Association on the basis of their performances at the Doha Asiad. The Olympic Council of Asia had set top four finish in a given discipline at the Doha Games as the basis for selection for the Asian Team. However, there are doubts about the participation of Pinki Parmanik, Soma Biswas and O.P. Jaisha. While Pinki and Jaisha have not joined the camp in Patiala, Soma has got married recently. The team: Men: Navpreet Singh (shot put), Renjith Maheswary (triple jump), Hari Shankar Roy (high jump), Aboo Backer, Joseph Abraham, Bhupinder Singh and K.M. Binu (4x400m). Women: Sinimol Paulose (1500m), Manjeet Kaur and Pinki Parmanik (400m, 4x400m), O.P. Jaisha (5000m), Krishna Punia (discus), Anju George (long jump), Soma Biswas and J.J. Shobha (heptathlon), Satti Geetha and Chitra Soman (4x400).
