Bangalore bids for WTA event

Bangalore: Bangalore has made its bid to host the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour year-ending championship for the year 2008 and 2009. Bangalore is among four contenders for the mega women's event; the others are Monterrey, Istanbul and Doha.

The WTA tour committee, which is scheduled to meet later this month during the Wimbledon week, will take a final decision on the bid and the venue.

According to C.S. Sunder Raju, the KSLTA is making this bid to stake Bangalore's claim as a major World sports city. "If this event is allotted to Bangalore it will change the face of tennis in the country," said the secretary of KSLTA. — Special Correspondent
