BANGALORE: The Stuttgart-based (Germany) ETAS, with global sales of euro 130 million, has opened a wholly owned Indian subsidiary, ETAS Automotive India Ltd., in Bangalore. ETAS is part of Robert Bosch GmbH and specialises in software tools related to electronic control units (ECUs) for automobiles. The investment here was not disclosed but the technical staff would grow to ten by next year. "Operating in this country through MICO, since 1999, we wanted a closer presence to our customers who include Indian automobile manufacturers like Tatas, Mahindras and Ashok Leyland and will now have our own team of service engineers to meet the specific needs of the local market," M. Klauda, CEO, ETAS Group, told reporters here on Friday.
Advanced ECUs
With Indian car-makers, including subsidiaries of global companies, looking at more exports and the related need to meet Euro 4 emission norms and enhanced fuel efficiency demanded by domestic car buyers, the need for advanced ECUs with embedded systems was growing, he said. W. Sienel, Managing Director of the Indian subsidiary said, "The products first launched here include our DRIVE Recorder with GPS/GSM technology and soon our flagship product ASCET to aid software for automotive embedded systems and calibration software, required in the latest models of automobiles, will be available."
