Equality before law will be upheld: VS
Special Correspondent
V.S. Achuthanandan
Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Friday that the principle of equality before law would not be ignored regarding eviction of encroachments and demolition of unauthorised constructions.
He denied that the Government was giving differential treatment to political parties. Mr. Achuthanandan said that no unlawful concessions would be given to anyone. Evictions would continue on the basis of Government decisions and court verdicts.
Mr. Achuthanandan maintained that the Government had only determined priorities by excluding action against political parties and places of worship so that its objective of evicting large-scale encroachments could be carried forward. The Chief Minister said there were efforts to hinder action by creating minor provocations. There were complaints that officials were serving notices on the poor, small traders, places of worship, memorials and offices of parties in a hurry without examining the documents properly. Care should be taken so that the task of evicting larger encroachments was not hit.
