UP IN ARMS: Students demonstrating in Lucknow on Friday alleging irregularities in the CPMT results.
Lucknow: Alleging discrepancies in combined pre-medical test (CPMT) results, students took to the streets across Uttar Pradesh, blocking roads and torching a roadways bus, even as Poorvanchal University asserted that the examination process adopted by it was foolproof. Some allegedly unsuccessful CPMT candidates torched a roadways bus near Gandhi Setu in Gomti Nagar here, injuring two persons including a child. The bus was on its way to Gonda. Police detained four persons in connection with the incident. In Kanpur, students staged demonstrations before coaching institutes and blocked traffic on some key roads to register their protest. Superintendent of Police, Kanpur (South) D.N. Mishra said about 40 students moved in a procession at Kakadeo area, where a number of coaching centres were located. After the results were declared on Thursday evening, students staged demonstrations, blocked roads and indulged in brick batting. The agitating students disrupted traffic on GT road for about two hours late on Thursday night. The students complained that very few candidates made it to the CPMT exam this time though in the past many students had qualified for the same from the city. Protests were also reported in Allahabad, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Agra and some other cities. Poorvanchal University, which conducted the exam, said there were no chances of any discrepancy. - PTI
