A good academic show by former child workers

They come out with flying colours in Secondary School Leaving Certificate

Seven child labourers (four boys and three girls) who were rescued and rehabilitated by National Child Labour Project officials from different parts of the district five years ago, have come out with flying colours in the Secondary School Leaving Certificate course this year. C. Ramakrishnan, G. Shenbagaraj, S. Balamurugan, G. Sasikala, Eswari, Vidhya and S. Irudhayaraj were rescued while they were employed at industrial units and shops and establishments in and around Kovilpatti.

M. Nallaperumal, project director, NCLP, said that the children completed their SSLC in government schools.

Among them, Vidhya topped the list with 436 marks out of a total of 500 (87.2 per cent). Subject-wise, she has scored 97 out of 100 in Mathematics, 92 in Social Science, 91 in English, 86 in Science, and 70 in Tamil.

She was followed by Ramakrishnan with a score of 356 marks. He scored 80 in Tamil, 74 in Mathematics, 73 in Social Science, 72 in Science, and 57 in English.

Of the rest, Shenbagaraj got an aggregate of 334 marks, Eswari 332 marks, Balamurugan 330 marks, Sasikala 324 marks and Irudhayaraj got 249 marks.
