Staff Reporter
The Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union on Friday responded to the show-cause notices served on 11 students, including its three office-bearers, urging that no punitive action be taken against individual students who participated in a collective protest led by the union. The notices have been served on the students for their involvement in the February 19 incident in which the Registrar was illegally confined and gheraoed in his staff car for more than six hours. Responding on behalf of all 11 students, JNUSU in a letter to Vice-Chancellor B.B. Bhattacharya said the "sole concern of the protest on February 19 was the serious and systematic violation of workers' rights, especially the violation of minimum wage laws by JNU authorities and contractors on the campus".
