Cabinet decides to constitute a Madrasa Board Survey to identify BPL families for ration cards
BANGALORE: The State Cabinet on Friday decided to constitute a subcommittee to work out details of the internal quota within the reservation categories for Other Backward Classes (OBCs). The Cabinet authorised Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to nominate the chairman and members of the subcommittee. There was no difference of opinion among the coalition partners on setting up the subcommittee, Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Basavaraj S. Horatti told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting. Sources in the Government said the proposal for internal reservation among the OBC categories was suggested by the JD(S) Ministers and the BJP Ministers endorsed it. The former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda has been demanding the internal reservation for OBCs for a long time on the ground that the Kuruba and Idiga communities, which figure in Category 2 (a), had cornered all the benefits of reservation much to the dismay of the 99 other castes that figure in the same category. Category 2 (a) has a total reservation of 15 per cent out of the 32 per cent set apart for the OBCs in the State. The Cabinet decided to constitute a Madrasa Board to introduce a uniform curriculum in all madrasas in the State. There are 103 aided and 220 unaided madrasas in the State. It will cost the State exchequer Rs. 16 lakh. The next session of the State legislature would be held from July 5 to July 26, Mr. Horatti said. Deputy Commissioners in all districts would be instructed to conduct a survey to provide ration cards to eligible families living below the poverty line. Report sought
A Cabinet subcommittee headed by Public Works Minister H.D. Revanna has been asked to submit a report on daily wage employees in a month. The employees have launched an agitation for regularisation of services.
